Android users that like the iPhone X aesthetics but love their operating system may wish to take a closer look at the Xiaomi Mi 8 Explore edition. This was one of a number of products unveiled by the Chinese company and shows the continued giant positive strides that they are making in the Smartphone market.
They all come with the MIUI 10 Software Pre Installed. (see demo at bottom of page)
Th M8 series looks sleek and polished and is the closest we have seen in appearance to the iPhone X. There are three to consider
Xiaomi Mi 8
The display is a 6.21 inch OLED with 2248 x1080 with 18.7:9 ratio. The hardware includes a Snapdragon 845 processor and Storage of either 64GB, 128GB or 256GB with RAM set at 6GB. It houses, on the rear a Sony 12MP f/1.8 camera together with a Samsung f/2.4 telephoto. The front camera is a whopping 20MP f/2.0 with AI Beautify. Charging is via USB-C and like its fruity look alike it has no headphone jack.
Xiaomi Mi 8 SE
This is a smaller 5.88 inch still OLED at 2244 x 1080 and is the most competitively priced (see below) It has a Snapdragon 710 Processor and only 64GB storage with RAM options of 4GB or 6GB. It still has 2 rear cameras 12MP and a 5MP telephoto with a 20MP front.
Xiaomi MI 8 Explorer edition
This is the flagship model with 3D face unlock and a fingerprint scanner embedded into its display. In a similar way to the iPhone X this also has its own unique Animoji range. As the lead photo shows the transparent back is also a talking point. The specs are the same as the Mi 8 aprt from 8GB Ram storage fixed at 128GB and the addition of 3D face unlock on the front camera.
Mi 8 & Mi 8 SE on sale in china early June - from 2699 yuan (approx $421 or £320) and 1799 (approx $281 or £215) respectively.
The Mi 8 Explorer Edition will arrive later and will be priced at 3699 Yuan (approx $577 or £435)
Whichever way you look at these are attractive additions to the Xiaomi range and will certainly take a share of this ever competitive market.
