So Apple has announced as expected iOS 12, with it we have seen changes with everything from Memoji, Group FaceTime to Screen Time and Do not disturb. Although no new hardware products were announced there was plenty of new features to satisfy the fruit hungry fans.

Memoji:

Apples Animoji feature introduced last year has now been updated to not only create moreCharactersBut also the new ability to create yourself as and emoji. Craig Federighi introduced this feature and demonstrated it in his usual entertaining way. With this technology it was also demonstrated how you can incorporate your own personal in emoji within the camera app and send pictures of your emoji self on top of your own real body.

Faster & More Responsive

IOS 12 is designed to make everyday tasks on iPhone and iPad faster and more responsive. The camera will launch up to 70% faster, the keyboard appears up to 50% faster and typing is even more responsive. Even when there is a lot going on across the system, Apps can launch up to  twice as fast.

Shared AR Experiences

ARKit 2 was demonstrated and this enables developers to create the most innovative AR apps. This was demonstrated with one of the leading team within the Lego corporation showing how this new technology will have a affect on gameplay across multiple users.

Facetime

One of the biggest cheers of the evening was heard when it was announced the launch of group FaceTime and this feature can incorporate up to 32 individuals within the same conversation and automatically detects who's speaking and makes them the prominent focus on the screen. I have to say this was demonstrated superbly and potentially will be amazing when launched.

Siri Shortcuts

Another popular announcement was the introduction of Siri shortcuts a feature where you can create your own shortcut which Siri will then recognise and access the relevant command to enable faster and more effective integration within your device. This could be as simple as when leaving an airport saying 'travel plans' and Siri then gives information on your hotel booking.

Photos

IOS 12 Will make it easier for you to share photos between your friends and family, it was demonstrated how, when on a night out the photos you take will be suggested to share within your group friends at the event. And when they receive them they will also be invited to share back their own photos taken at the same event.

Do Not Disturb & Screen Time

New tools were built into iOS 12 to help customers understand and take control of the time they spend interacting with their device. There are now new modes: do not disturb during bedtime helps people get a better night sleep by dimming the display and hiding all notifications on the lock screen until prompted in the morning.

Screen time also helps you manage how much of your day is spent with your device and goes into incredible detail including, the time you spend on each app, Weekly and daily activity reports and monitors how many notifications are received by each application.  but probably the best feature of screen time, is the ability when using family sharing to monitor and limit your child's IOS device to the amount of time they spend on each Application and also set do not disturb times, for instance, during the night.

There were other features introduced including a higher level of privacy and security features as well as upgraded Applications such as Apple Books, Apple News, Stocks, CarPlay, Voice memos, and Wallet.

We will cover these features in further articles over the course of the next few months while we wait for the final release likely to be early September.
